Overview:
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and its fragmentation into separate states, mafias emerged on the economic and political scene, trading in anything that high prices might otherwise put out of reach; consequently, if one had the money, one could obtain anything—even an atomic bomb. Al-Qaeda sought to have these mafias acquire design blueprints for an atomic bomb manufacturing project, but some of the groups instead transferred the plans to Saddam Hussein through a KGB agent named Aliyev—a Muslim from Kyrgyzstan who held Saddam Hussein in high regard and was known for his arms-dealing activities.
